Travel Guide: The Perfect Weekend in D.C.

D.C. has been on my bucket list for the past several years. I dreamed of walking around the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, visiting Bao Bao at the National Zoo, and checking out all the cafes and cupcake shops along the Georgetown Riverfront. This amazing city is truly a budget traveler's dream, especially considering I was lucky enough to secure housing on a friend's couch in Arlington.

Day 1 (Arrival Day)

✈️: I flew into DCA late in the afternoon. Since I had a tight connection in ATL and couldn't check out the Priority Pass options there, I made a quick detour and visited the Bracket Room in Terminal B to check out one of the two DCA restaurant partners.

🚇: After a quick lesson from the station master, I purchased my Metro Card, jumped on the Blue line, and made my way to Arlington.

🍔: I am always craving a good burger and shake so my friend took me to Big Buns Damn Good Burgers in the neighborhood.

🍹: After dinner, we stopped by Punch Bowl Social for drinks with a few more friends. For someone that typically spends Friday nights lounging, this place was casual enough for me to not feel completely out of place.

Day 2 (The National Mall)

🐘: Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

🗿: Sculpture Garden

🖼: National Gallery of Art - You can even get gelato here!

🌯: Food Trucks - So many options!

🗺: United States Holocaust Memorial Museum - If you visit this museum on the weekends or during busy season (March 1 - August 31), you will need a ticket. The tickets are free but you have to reserve them in advance. The museum releases tickets months in advance, but the museum will also release additional same day tickets beginning at 6:30am.

🎩: Lincoln Memorial

🏛: Jefferson Memorial

🍣: Masa 14.

Day 3 (Georgetown)

⛲️: Georgetown Riverwalk

🥧: Baked & Wired

🍰: Georgetown Cupcakes

🏢: Georgetown University

🛌: Rainy Day Nap - Am I even me if I don't squeeze in a few naps during my vacation?

Day 4 (Departure Day)

🇺🇸: U.S. Capitol

🌳: United States Botanical Garden

✈️: Back to DCA at 2:00pm

I wish the weather cooperated a bit more during my 72 hours in D.C. so I could have spent a bit more time exploring all the sights and museums. I guess this just means I'll have to book another trip soon.

XOXO - Shuyun
