Get ready to take a step away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood’s busy streets and immerse yourself into a galaxy far far away – Batuu style.
On August 29, it's about to go down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the park will grow in size as it opens the gates to the much anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Unlike the Star Wars area that debuted when Studios opened in 1989, hosting Star Tours and Jedi Training, Galaxy's Edge is a land unlike anything Disney has done before.
Upon arriving on the planet of Batuu, you are greeted by traders and travelers alike. During the initial opening, the second ride, “Rise of the Resistance,” will not be completed. This is set to open December 5, 2019, but don’t let this hinder your anticipation. Travel further into town and be prepared to experience the Black Spire Outpost. From food, to clothing and everything in between, the Outpost has all your market needs. The detail in the market, and the whole land for that matter, is incredible. Make sure you stop by and even say “Hi” to Tom, a loth-cat.
When you finally make your way through the Outpost, take a look to the left and you will see it. The moment that every Star Wars fan has waited for – the Millennium Falcon is right in front of you. Bypass Dok-Ondar’s Antiquities and Docking Bay 7, your time is here. You are about to fly the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.
As you step inside Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run you will learn of your mission from Hondo Ohnaka. You and 5 other guests will be assigned positions on the Falcon, 2 Pilots, 2 Gunners, and 2 Engineers. The mission is dependent on all of you working together – so make sure your trust your team.
At the end of the ride, now it’s time to see what else Batuu has to offer. Take the time and take it all in. There is detail in everything. Just like old school Disney World, make sure to keep your eyes open. Along with the constant patrol from the Stormtroopers, Resistance Fighters, Rey, Chewie and Kylo Ren are also in Batuu visiting. They will stop and talk to you, but they are not available to individual pictures or autographs. If you are looking for something more personal, back in our plant of Hollywood Land, Star Wars Launch Bay still houses a few friends who will take pictures and sign autographs. Currently this is where Chewie and Kylo reside, but due to the constant travel to and from Batuu, a line up is projected to join the Bay.
Along with Smugglers Run and Black Spire Outpost, Batuu is filled with amazing photo stops as well. Grab yourself a blue or green milk and pose in front of a stationary Fighter Jet. The milk can also be ordered with alcohol if you choose as well. Rum is paired with the Blue Milk and tequila with the Green Milk.
If you haven’t worked up an appetite yet, the food options on this planet for sure will put you over the edge. Oga’s Cantina, Docking Bay 7 and Rontos Roasters are your three choices. Oga’s is a sit down bar ranging from $14.99 to $34.99. Reservation have already opened up and are filling up fast; but keep in mind their food options are limited to two snack options. Docking Bay 7 is the Quick Service Restaurant and despite the names of their menu items has been receiving amazing reviews. The vegetarian option is a humus based veggie plate and is one of the most popular items on their menu. And finally Rontos Roasters, a grab and go food stand. Located inside Black Spire Outpost. Rontos only has two items on their menu and the wrap is amazing!
From themed Coke bottles, to details in the bathroom, Star Wars: Galexy's Edge will not disappoint it’s travelers. So as the Batuuan’s say “May the Spires Keep You,” as you explore all this planet has to offer.
